United Way Estevan is gearing up for the 6th Annual Day of Caring. This year’s day long event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 2013. The Day of Caring is an opportunity for the community to come together as a group and make a real difference. It’s a great chance to get out and interact with others while lending a hand to someone in need or sharing a laugh during a visit. Estevan shines on the Day of Caring. Individuals, businesses and groups join forces to make a difference right here at home.

2012 Campaign – Great Success

The United Way Estevan 2012 Campaign was another tremendous success. Thanks to all who volunteered, attended and donated to this year’s 33 hour Telethon. Past President Roberta DeRosier was pleased to report a grand total of nearly $493,000.00 at this year’s AGM. She went on to congratulate everyone who participated. Roberta expressed her appreciation to the board for making her year so wonderful and successful. She stepped down as President and welcomed new President 2013/14, Dawn Schell.

President-Elect Dawn Schell welcomed everyone and spoke of her commitment and involvement with United Way Estevan. She is very excited about the new directions that the organization is taking. Dawn referred to the new programs and community initiatives that show the depth and commitment felt by the board, its members and supporters. Dawn commented that she felt privileged to be part of the dreams and plans that continue to grow and develop.

The 36th Annual United Way Telethon is just days away and the count down is on. This year’s Telethon is set for Friday, October 12th 8:00am – Saturday, October 13th 5:00pm at the Legion Hall. The 33 hour event boasts a wealth of local entertainment and informative interviews with representatives from the 17 member agencies and 3 community impact projects.

Homemade raffle and bid items are always so popular. The United Way Estevan is grateful to all who donated a great selection of items to choose from for this year’s Telethon.

United Way Estevan invites you to enjoy the concession again this year. Bring your appetite and enjoy the event with us live. The Telethon will be broadcast live on Access 7 and updated continuously on AM-CJ1280 and FM-SUN102.3 radio.

Donations are welcome and accepted during the Telethon at the Legion Hall on 4th Street. Come down and share in the excitement. There are so many talents that go into the production. Please come and support your community and our charity. We hope to see you there. Be sure to check out the items for raffle and bid.

Pledges made can be mailed to United Way Estevan, Box 611, Estevan, SK S4A 2A5 – no postage necessary. Pledges will also be accepted at the Spectra Credit Union, TD Canada Trust, CIBC, Royal Bank, Bank of Montreal and the Scotia Bank until noon on November 5, 2012.

Preparations continue for the Annual Telethon

United Way Estevan board of directors have been meeting weekly since the end of August to ensure that this year’s Telethon is another success. This year’s Telethon will be held October 12^th and 13^th at the Royal Canadian Legion. Campaign Chair, Roberta DeRosier reports that the Telethon Committees are meeting and planning besides these regular meetings. She encourages anyone interested in volunteering for the Telethon to contact the office at 634-7375 or email executivedirector@unitedwayestevan.com.

Estevan Regional Nursing Home Fundraiser

Estevan Regional Nursing Home will be holding a fundraiser on Wednesday, August 29th, 2012 at 1921 Wellock Road, Estevan. The Carnival will run from 10:30-11:30am and 1:30-3:00pm, with a bbq fundraiser from 12:00-1:30pm. Organizers are looking for volunteers to help with the bbq and afternoon games. 10 carnival events/games are planned including; ring toss, face painting and basketball toss to name a few. There will also be raffles and a bake sale. Raffle tickets are $1.00 each. Those attending are asked to give a donation at the door to help offset costs. Staff and organizers welcome everyone to come and enjoy the day!

Estevan United Way wishes to thank all those who took part in the 5th Annual Day of Caring, held this year May 30, 2012. The day was a resounding success with moderate temperatures and over 80 volunteers taking part in 19 separate projects. We thank our corporate sponsor Enbridge Pipelines for their continued support and committment to serving our community and the United Way. We’d also like to thank the businesses that donated product and staff volunteers to support the success of the this year’s Day of Caring. To the many organizers and individual volunteers, schools and churches we send our thanks and wish you all a safe and wonderful summer.

Change starts here. Once again, the people of Estevan and area have shown how truly generous and caring they are. The 35^th annual United Way Estevan Telethon was an incredible success. We were able to exceed our goal of $300,000.35 by 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011, and when we went off air at 5:00 p.m., $370,647 had been pledged, the largest total in the history of our Telethon.

With these dollars, countless lives will be changed in a positive and lasting way through the member agencies and community impact projects we support.

There are many people to thank for the success of our Telethon. A huge “thank you” is extended to fellow board members, all of our many volunteers and entertainers, and to you, the people of Estevan and surrounding area, for once again making the United Way Estevan the 1^st in Canada to reach its goal.

Enbridge Pipelines (Saskatchewan) Inc “Cooks That Cook” a Success

Enbridge Pipelines (Saskatchewan) Inc’s “Cooks That Cook” was a success again this year. 30 cooks prepared a wide variety of appetizers, side dishes, main dishes and deserts. Approximately 246 hungry attendees sampled delicacies prepared by local restaurants including The Tower Café, Boston Pizza, Baba’s Bistro and Homestead, as well as staff and family members of those working at Enbridge.

An excellent meal was followed by a fundraising auction, silent auction and raffle. Staff from operating groups within Enbridge’s office and field offices sponsored 17 baskets of items for auction. Silent auction items were donated by a variety of businesses and individuals. Raffle prizes were also donated. Approximately $15,500 was raised.

Ensign Big Sky Drilling Kicks off United Way Fundraising

Ensign Big Sky Drilling kicked off fundraising for United Way Estevan with a BBQ on Friday, September 23^rd. Hosted by Chandel Equipment Rentals in Oxbow, over 300 people attended. Saskatchewan Roughriders Luca Congi and Rob Bagg were on hand to sign autographs.

For $5, those attending enjoyed hamburgers or hotdogs, corn on the cob, and slushies. Chandel Equipment Rentals and Ensign Big Sky Drilling generously provided the BBQ supplies. All proceeds will go to the United Way, matched dollar for dollar by Ensign Big Sky Drilling.
