Fundraiser – CFL Banjo Bowl at Orpheum Theatre

The Estevan Orpheum Theatre is once again holding a fundraiser for the United Way of Estevan.  They will be showing the CFL Banjo Bowl on September 12th, on the giant theatre screen.  There will be concession and a bar open.  Last year we had a number of people out, and had one heck of a good time.  We will update this story as more details become available.

October 2010 Campaign – Get in the Way

With the summer days getting shorter and shorter, the United Way of Estevan is gearing up for our annual campaign on October 15th, and 16th, 2010

This year’s theme is ‘Get in the Way’ and will take place once again at the Estevan Legion Hall.  We will be broadcasting live on Access Communications and live cut-ins on both Sun102.3FM and CJ1280 Radio stations.

The goal this year is $300,000.

Estevan and area groups and businesses are busy starting their fundraisers, and if you have any public fundraisers, please drop us a line to let us know about it.  We will put up information on the website to help let people know!

Day of Caring 2010

The Day of Caring was an opportunity for our community to come together as a group to make a real difference to individuals or groups that needed a little help. It was a special chance to interact with others, whether we were painting, cleaning, landscaping or entertaining. But it was about more than hammers, paint brushes & rakes; it was about building relationships & building our community, something that benefited all of us.

Volunteers worked directly with the agencies & programs that help people in Estevan and had the opportunity to learn about the value of their work & why it makes such a significant difference in our community. They worked with individuals that benefited from projects that might not otherwise have been completed because of a lack of manpower, physical ability or time.

Wed. May 19  marked the  3rd Day of Caring in Estevan. Each year we have seen this event grow and that is heart-warming and encouraging. We saw approximately 100 volunteers work on 17 projects during the day.

From  painting at Envision Councilling to landscaping at the Lamoine Apartments for Estevan Diversified Services, to yard work at Creighton Lodge, we saw a community spirit that expressed  pride & joy in helping others. We washed windows and did yard work for individual citizens in Estevan and participated in a major clean-up and flower planting at Estevan Diversified Services and Sarcan. Estevan Regional Nursing Home was also a busy centre as we did yard work and washed windows. A group of TaeKwondo students participated in cleaning the Pleasantdale School grounds and other  volunteers had their own projects that we are still hearing about.

During the lunch hour, Estevan Diversified Services, along with co-sponsor Enbridge hosted a barbecue for the volunteers. Creighton Lodge invited all to coffee break in the afternoon for cake and cookies and to visit with the residents.

The United Way Day of Caring committee would like to express their deepest gratitude to all who made the 2010 Day of Caring a tremendous success!
